Community Investment Fund
New Investment Option for CIF
Corporate One Federal Credit Union and the NCUF have partnered to offer a new investment option for the NCUF's Community Investment Fund (CIF). As you may know, the CIF is a unique investment vehicle that credit unions can leverage to support their state foundation initiatives while also supporting the NCUF's national programs and grants.
The new CIF option is a result of the winding down of the traditional CIF option through U.S. Central, which allowed credit unions the ability to make low yielding demand deposit investments. The Corporate One CIF option allows credit unions the ability to choose products such as callable and bullet U.S. Government agency securities, as well as negotiable certificates of deposit (CDs). No capital is required on the part of the credit union and Corporate One membership is not required to invest. Corporate One can also help credit unions who want to ensure a fixed amount is returned to the foundation(s) by choosing the appropriate products to fit their asset/liability strategy.

To participate in the Corporate One CIF Option, credit unions invest in a government-issued security or a federally insured CD. As interest is paid on the investment, a share of the interest is returned to investing credit unions, with the remaining share being split 50/50 between the NCUF and ICUF. NCUF uses the remaining portion of the CIF interest to support its national programs such as BizKid$ and CUAid.

Financial Education
Educating Our Youngest Members
The financial education initiative that we began 18 months ago has had a great effect on what credit unions are doing in their communities, for their employees, and in schools. This month we turn our focus on the youngest members - the future of our credit unions.
Common barriers between parents and children are around not knowing what to say, kids shutting down because their parents sound "preachy", and missing the teachable moments throughout the day or week. We've made this process simple and transferable by creating a document that can be handed out to members who are doing transactions with or for their children. We recommend having stacks of these handouts close by teller windows.
It's a small gesture on the part of credit unions to make sure that parents are having money conversations with their kids. Read more
