ICUF Supports Inaugural Screening of Broke, Busted and Disgusted
The filmmakers of Broke, Busted and Disgusted hosted the first public screening of the documentary on Jan. 26 in Des Moines. More than 80 people were in in attendance and took advantage of the opportunity to ask questions and discuss student debt with the documentary's creator, Adam Carroll, a financial literacy expert who also serves on ICUF's Board of Directors.

Prior to the screening, Jaimie Miller, Executive Director, ICUF, announced ICUF's pledge of $5,000 to help distribute the film to every Iowa high school.

"We are proud to support this film in hopes of minimizing the overall borrowing by Iowa students," Miller said. "We are working to help Iowans build wealth, responsibility and independence."

More than 15 Iowa credit unions have pledged to join the effort resulting in an additional $40,000. If you or your credit union are interested in supporting the film, click here.

ICUF Hosts Poverty Simulation For Greater Iowa Credit Union
Greater Iowa Credit Union teamed up with ICUF to host a Poverty Simulation during its annual all-employee training.

More than 80 employees participated in the unique event to understand what it might be like to live in a typical low-income family trying to survive from month-to-month. To drive the point home, they each had to assume the roles of families whose members are unemployed, homeless, living on disability or raising children/grandchildren on a fixed income. At the end of the exercise, Greater Iowa Credit Union employees were more aware of the daily realities faced by many American families.
