Learn How To Help First-Time Homebuyers Save

holding_house_key.jpg During the 2017 legislative session, the Iowa Legislature passed a bill introducing first-time homebuyer savings accounts. These accounts allow for individuals or married couples to begin the process of saving for their first home, while earning interest and being able to claim a tax deduction on their savings accounts, up to $4,000 per year.

Credit unions can participate in the first-time homebuyer program simply by providing information to members regarding the option. Standard savings accounts can be utilized for the program and it is the responsibility of the member to report the account to the Department of Revenue.
