ICUF Community Impact Award

The Community Impact Award was created in 2015 to recognize individuals within the Iowa credit union movement who have demonstrated outstanding civic and charitable responsibility through volunteerism, advocacy or philanthropy in service toward community-based charitable causes. This year the award is expanding to include credit unions and community partners of the Iowa Credit Union Foundation (ICUF) who demonstrate the people helping people philosophy.

The 2018 ICUF Community Impact Award Winners were:

Alanna Davison 
North Iowa Community Credit Union

Alanna Davison, a Business Development Specialist at North Iowa Community Credit Union, has taken great pride in the launch of a new non-profit organization, My Happy Haven. Through this organization, women battling cancer are provided an opportunity for a bedroom makeover – creating a retreat of serenity and peace to relax in during their difficult time. Alanna is not only a founding board member, but also a dedicated fundraiser and helped the organization raise more than $20,000 in their first year.

Tom Chalstrom
First Federal Credit Union

Tom Chalstrom, President and CEO of First Federal Credit Union, has worked to make giving back central to the mission of First Federal Credit Union. With Tom’s leadership, employee programs for giving back and volunteering have been implemented to assist with causes around the Cedar Rapids area. In 2017, Tom worked to launch the Homerun for Hunger campaign, which collected more than 3,700 pounds of food for those in need during its first year.

Josh Cook 
Community Choice Credit Union

Josh Cook, CEO of Community Choice Credit Union, exemplifies UNbanking for GOOD. Over the past several years, Josh has been involved by donating time and funds to more than 44 nonprofits, including local schools. Most recently, Josh has chaired the American Heart Association’s annual fundraiser, the Heart Ball, and has worked to make one of the most successful fundraising events AHA has ever seen.

Dupaco Community Credit Union

Dupaco Community Credit Union strives to be a leader in each community they serve. Dupaco invests in individuals and organizations that advance their credit union mission of fostering individual empowerment and financial sustainability. In 2017, Dupaco’s more than 430 employees volunteered more than 7,100 hours of their own time to support local communities and organizations, causes that advance their mission. Employees donated their own money and participated in fundraising efforts that amounted to more than $940,000.
