Des Moines, Iowa—The Iowa Credit Union Foundation (ICUF) is pleased to announce the winners of its 2013 Warren A. Morrow Memorial Scholarship program. The scholarship program received a record-breaking 485 applications.

Each applicant was required to complete an entry form and write a 500 word essay on the following question:

Given the fragile state of our national economy, with record unemployment and deficits, describe how having anemergency savings account is more crucial than ever. How might someone utilize their credit union to focus on saving?

Winners were selected by a panel of judges including teachers and credit union professionals. Scores on the essay were based on originality, clarity, meaningful content, accurate presentation of facts, adherence to contest rules, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

“ICUF has a long history of actively supporting Iowa credit unions and their communities,” said Marybeth Foster, Executive Director of ICUF. “It’s crucial we educate our youth on how to properly manage their finances now and in the future and our hope is that these six scholarship winners will become compelling examples that financial knowledge pays off.”
